South Africa has not hosted a F1 race since 1993 but Kyalami has since undergone extensive renovations to bring it back up to standard. A redesign and update of the now 2.81-mile circuit has been completed with significant upgrades made to the safety features. 'We have a track which is close to being compliant for F1,' said Baldwin, group property manager for Porsche SA and Kyalami. 'There are a couple of areas which maybe would have to be changed. 'We have engaged with [FIA race director] Charlie Whiting from an approval point of view. He came to see us last year.

'We're working towards FIA grade 2 accreditation, which means everything except F1. We can do F1 testing here.

'So in terms of safety, we have a very compliant racetrack and when we're finished, we'll get Charlie back and maybe we'll talk to him then.' Baldwin concedes that a imminent return of F1 is not on the agenda considering the amount of funding that would be required.

'The challenge is the business model, in terms of finding the money to bring F1 to South Africa,' he said. 'I can't see it at the moment, but never say never. We'd love to see F1 back in Kyalami.' When asked what would be required to bring a grand prix back to the country, Baldwin said: 'We would need government support. It's the only way, as proven in other countries. 'They are aware what we're doing, but I can't say we've had any formal discussions.' Kyalami general manager Dennis Klopper said the primary categories the venue is targeting are 'GT racing, touring cars and maybe WEC'.

Council member Rania El-Wani did an interview with Around the Rings yesterday, and said she thinks the revolution will be positive for sport in the country. El-Wani competed for Egypt in three Olympics, 1992, 1996 and 2000 in swimming. And won numerous medals at the World, African and Mediterrean games.

Rania El-Wani pic Al-AhramOptimistically (?) she says she doesn't see any further disturbances, pointing to the resumption of the country's football league as a sign of normality returning. And no, it's not clear if she means male or female but at a punt I'd say male. And in an interesting sign of how politics can ripple out and effect sport, the article says: 'El-Wani expects Tripoli in Libya to drop out of the bid race for Mediterraean games due to unrest in the country, leaving the Egyptian bid facing competition from Rijeka in Croatia and Tarragona, Spain.'

That doesn’t mean that we aren’t going to play and compete and fight. But when they come out tonight and defend the way they didit’s going to be very difficult for us to beat them.” Here’s some bonus bawful from ESPN Stats and Information: The 76ers shot 34.2 percent from the field.

Philadelphia has played 76 playoff games in the last 20 seasons and only had one where it shot worse — 33.8 percent in 2008 against the Pistons. The 76ers finished the regular season ranking in the top 5 in transition offense and led the NBA in transition points per game at 17.9. The 76ers had plenty of opportunities on Saturday but were unable to convert. Nearly half (7) of the 76ers’ transition plays came in the first quarter when Philly jumped out to a 12-point lead. Doug Collins has brought his 3rd different team to the postseason and they’ve all suffered the same fate in Game 1. All three teams lost Game 1 and the previous 2 were eventually swept out of the playoffs. The Chicago Bulls and expectations: Last night, the Bulls beat the Pacers and took a 2-0 series leadbut you’d hardly know it.
